House by the Stream
The Brief
We were called out to look at some subsidence of a garden wall. Unfortunately, we discovered it was more serious than first thought.
The nearby house dated back to 1800 and was close to being affected by the subsidence. Some urgent work was required to prevent it slipping into the stream.
The Solution
With the help of a structural engineer, we quickly fitted some temporary shoring followed by a new retaining gabion wall.
A considerable amount of paperwork was required by the Environmental Agency because the stream was occupied by migratory trout, so we had to design risk mitigation to the streams occupants to ensure there was no pollution. The stream had to be redirected and working safely below ground with no mechanical access to the rear of the property provided additional challenges.
The project is ongoing and unfortunately is not covered by insurance!
Sedlescombe Church
The Brief
We were approached by the Diocese Architects to tender for installing underfloor central heating to a church in Sedlescombe. The work had to be completed within 6 months and we had to protect the church fabric.
The Solution
The floor had to be removed under the watch of the Diocese Archaeologists. We installed modern recycled glass insulation and a specialist underfloor heating system. We sympathetically carried out the rebuild.
During the work we uncovered tombs buried beneath the floor which hadn’t been exposed since they were laid. This project was highly rewarding, and we were able to use our specialist knowledge to complete the work to a high standard.
